Make Time for Your Breast Health: Mobile Mammography Coming to Dimmitt Oct. 22

There is always something competing for your time.

Work. Family. Appointments. Errands. The dozens of things that need to happen before the end of the week.

Preventive healthcare can easily become something you plan to get to “later.”

This Breast Cancer Awareness Month, Castro County Healthcare is encouraging women to put one important appointment on the calendar.

Harrington Breast Center will bring mobile mammography services to the Medical Center of Dimmitt on Oct. 22 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.

To schedule an appointment or ask about pricing, call Harrington Breast Center at 806-212-1905.

Screening Is Healthcare for When You Feel Well

It is easy to associate healthcare with symptoms. Something hurts, feels different, or isn’t working quite right, so you make an appointment.

Preventive screening works differently.

Mammography is used to look for possible breast cancer before someone develops symptoms. For women at average risk, the U.S. Preventive Services Task Force recommends screening mammography every two years from ages 40 through 74.

Your individual recommendation may be different depending on your health history and risk, so talk with your healthcare provider if you have questions about when or how often you should be screened.

Make Breast Health Part of Women’s Health

Breast cancer screening should not exist in isolation from the rest of your healthcare.

Regular visits give women an opportunity to discuss preventive screenings, changes in their health, medications, reproductive and gynecological needs, chronic conditions, and questions that may not seem urgent enough for a separate appointment.

The Medical Center of Dimmitt provides women’s health services alongside family care and other healthcare for the community.

That makes your regular clinician a useful resource if you are unsure about your breast cancer risk or screening schedule.

Know When Not to Wait

Routine screening is important, but a scheduled mammogram is not a reason to delay care for a new breast concern.

Talk with your clinician about changes such as a new breast or underarm lump, swelling or thickening, changes in breast size or shape, skin dimpling, nipple changes or discharge, or breast pain. Many breast changes are caused by conditions other than cancer, but new or unusual symptoms deserve medical attention.
