New Castro County Healthcare Clinical Staff Expands Capacity in Emergency and Primary Care

Castro County Healthcare is investing in additional physician staff, expanding capacity for emergency care at Plains Memorial Hospital as well as follow-up and primary care services at the Medical Center of Dimmitt.

Dr. Jaime A. Román, whose primary role is in the emergency department at Plains Memorial Hospital, also sees patients at the Medical Center of Dimmitt, providing follow-up care after emergency room visits, evaluating walk-in patients, and helping patients manage chronic conditions.

“Dr. Román’s combined role will help strengthen continuity of care for patients across our health system,” said Elisha Rosier, RN, BSN, CEO of Castro County Healthcare. “He can care for patients during an emergency and then provide follow-up support through the clinic when needed. His commitment to rural medicine makes him a strong addition to our community and care team.”

Dr. Román completed his medical education at Ponce Health Sciences University in Puerto Rico and his family medicine residency training through the University of Texas at Tyler Athens Family Medicine Residency Program. He was elected chief resident for the class of 2026 and has participated in medical research, quality-improvement initiatives, community outreach, and volunteer service.

Before entering medicine, Dr. Román had an extensive career in civil and structural engineering. He earned a master’s degree in civil engineering from Cornell University and worked on engineering projects throughout Texas, Florida, and Puerto Rico. His background gives him a distinctive approach to medicine grounded in problem-solving, attention to detail, and practical decision-making.

Dr. Román will primarily serve patients in the Plains Memorial Hospital Emergency Department. He will also see patients at the Medical Center of Dimmitt one day each month for ER follow-up visits, walk-in care, and chronic condition management.

Patients experiencing a medical emergency should call 911 or visit the emergency department at Plains Memorial Hospital. To learn more about clinic services or schedule an appointment at the Medical Center of Dimmitt, call 806-647-2194.
