Castro County Healthcare

Castro County Healthcare has launched a new Pulmonary Rehabilitation program, expanding local rehabilitation services for patients living with chronic or ongoing breathing challenges.

The medical service supports patients with conditions such as chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), emphysema, chronic bronchitis, asthma, long COVID, pulmonary fibrosis, post-pneumonia recovery, and shortness of breath after hospitalization. Pulmonary rehabilitation may include monitored exercise, breathing techniques, education, endurance training, strength training, and medication education based on each patient’s individual needs.

“Pulmonary rehabilitation is an important addition to the services available through Castro County Healthcare because it gives patients another way to receive meaningful support close to home,” said Elisha Rosier, RN, BSN, CEO, Castro County Healthcare. “For people living with chronic breathing issues, even everyday activities can become difficult. This service is about helping patients build strength, improve confidence, and access care close to home.”

Pulmonary rehabilitation is customized for each patient and may be helpful for those experiencing shortness of breath, fatigue, trouble walking or staying active, frequent respiratory flare-ups, avoiding activity due to breathing problems, or difficulty with daily tasks.

The new service reflects Castro County Healthcare’s continued investment in local care access and rehabilitation capabilities. The program offers a dedicated space for patients to receive rehabilitation services in a familiar, local setting.

“Pulmonary rehabilitation gives patients structured support for the breathing challenges that can affect their strength, endurance, and independence,” said Silvana Juarez, Respiratory Therapist and Director for Pulmonary Rehab. “Pulmonary rehab helps to reduce anxiety and depression and improve independence, endurance, and quality of life. It reduces exacerbation and hospitalization due to pulmonary illness.”

Patients interested in pulmonary rehabilitation should speak with their primary care clinician or specialist about a referral. Patients may also contact The Medical Center of Dimmitt to be evaluated and referred if the program is a good fit.
